Ann Marie and Jim

I guess it was a really good thing that Ann Marie was looking for a job earlier this year. During her online job search, she stumbled across our website.

The wedding took place on July 11th at St. Mary's in Greek Town. One of those georgeous old churchs in downtown Detroit. The reception followed at the Detoit Yacht Club, on Belle Isle. The day was amazing! What a great backdrop for photos.

We also got to see one our favorite wedding bands, Simone Vitale. Simone actually taught Jim how to play guitar. How cool is that?

I was so excited after the wedding, that I couldn't wait to view the images and started working on them that night! WOW... we got some very cool images for Ann Marie and Jim. The love that they feel for each other was so easy to capture and is expressed in the images that we created. I'm soooooo happy that they allowed us to share in their special day.

Jennifer and Steve

Last weekend we photographed Jennifer and Steve at one of my favorite locations in the metro
Detroit area, Kirk in the Hills. It has to be one of the most beautiful churches in Michigan.

The reception was at the Max M Fisher Music Center in Detroit.

(That's Max in the middle, by the way. Taken at his 90th birthday party)

We had the opportunity to work with Don & Joanne Pham from Take 1 Productions. Don and Joanne are not your typical videographers! They have a style that resembles a Hollywood/MTV production. They rightfully refer to themselves as cinematographers.

Check out their website and see if you agree!

Below are a few of the images we created for Jennifer and Steve. Enjoy!

Quote of the day

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
~Albert Einstein

...and this comes from a guy who sometimes couldn't remember which house was his.

Of course when we go out of town, I usually can't remember our hotel room... see the correlation???;)

Black & White Conversion in Photoshop

Are you tired of converting your images to black and white only to find color casts in your prints when they come back from the lab?

This series of commands will result in black & white prints that have no color casts to them because you are deleting all color information before printing.

Open an Image and go to Image>Mode>Labcolor.
Under the Channels tab, delete channel b. Delete Alpha 2 channel.
Convert Mode to Greyscale. Image>Mode>Greyscale.
Convert Mode back to RGB color so the lab can print it Image>Mode>RGB Color.

That's it! Simply write an action for this and you can convert files to black and white with the push of a button!

Simple, huh?

SENIOR PORTRAIT SLIDE SHOWS

I love photographing high school seniors! They're so energetic and optimistic. One of the cool products that we offer is a Sr. Slide Show.

I'm sure you've seen shows in the past where the images fade in and out to music. Those are nice but.......... I think our slide shows "kick it up a notch" with the addition of live video.

Check out the slide show from Erika's portrait session.

Images from GLIP

One of my passions is to teach others about the art of photography. I feel it is my duty to share what knowledge I have with anyone who is willing to listen.
With the industry exploding with new comer photographers, there are plenty of students out there eager to learn the ropes from a {sigh} seasoned veteran. I thought I would post a few of the images that I created while teaching at GLIP.

Comments are always welcomed!

Wedding Image Selected for Magazine Cover

Each year, The Jewish News publishes their "Celebrate" issue. Photographers from around the area are asked to submit images they've created during the last year that illustrates a "celebration".

This year like we have done in the past, we submitted our photo's and our ad and we waited for the magazine to be published.

Last Thursday, we were pleasantly surprised to see that our photo of Julie (Justice) and Steve Goldberg was chosen as the cover image. Wahoo!

Isn't that exciting????

Creative Wedding Album Design

Are you impressed with the fancy scrapbook style wedding albums that have become all the rage in recent years? It seems that wedding album design has taken on a life of it's own since digital technology has made it possible for anyone with a camera to call themselves a photographer.

When you visit a Professional Photographer to discuss your wedding day, ask to see a complete wedding album. Look beyond the graphic elements and design layouts of the page and really examine the photographic images themselves. Are they well composed? Are they in focus? Is the lighting flattering to the subjects?

This is where a trained Professional Photographer with experience in proper body positioning and lighting will be able to design an album that not only graphically looks dynamic, but more importantly, will make you look your best as well.

Anyone with a camera can take snapshot. Only a skilled Professional Photographer can combine the art and science of photography to create a truly memorable wedding album.

The way we see it, you can mask mediocre snapshots with creative graphic wedding album design. So be sure to look beyond the design elements and look into the images contained in the wedding album before you select the studio to capture your precious wedding memories.

Trying Times

It has been a sad and hectic time for our family over the last few days. We found out Thursday morning that Tammi's sister was in a car accident on her way to work.

The accident happened at the intersection on Middlebelt and Michigan Avenue. ...I wonder... Can you really call it an accident when you are sitting at a stop light minding your business and out of nowhere, you're hit at 45 miles an hour from behind? AN accident? The driver of the Jeep Commander apparently didn't even brake. -Why? and why is that an accident?

As my sister in law lies in a hospital bed with a broken back and a broken leg, I have trouble finding the "fairness" in all of this. She has already been through an eight hour surgery yesterday to repair a compound fracture (2 of them actually) of her leg and spinal surgery to remove a broken lumbar. ...and this is only the beginning. More surgery in the coming weeks will be needed if she ever plans to walk again.

My sister in law is one of the strongest people that I know and I'm sure that she will pull through this. Unfortunately, because of the actions of another, she has been changed for life.

Tammi and I and our entire family are quite thankful that Tracy will, in time be able to walk again. Her life will certainly have to change. We thank God that she has a life and that it wasn't wasted at the hands of another by "accident".

Below are photos of the car that I took today.

Busy Traveling

I know that it has been a while since I have posted anything here. That is partially due to the fact hat my schedule has been so busy.

In February I was asked to teach a wedding seminar to the Professional Photographers of Michigan convention in Ypsilanti (I know, not a very exciting.
The program was a huge success and the attendees walked away with huge amounts of information about the art and science of photography.

Just this past weekend, I was helping a friend with his teaching endeavors which took us to Waterloo , Iowa on Saturday then to Dayton, Ohio on Sunday morning. What a long night of driving!!!

We hope to keep busy photographing and teaching, so stay tuned for updates on where we will be next.

We visited our friends Debbie and Gary Hosey on Saturday and we had the opportunity to photograph the kids right in the midst of their home selling preparations.(I can't wait to see the new house!)

If you think the kids look familiar... it's beause they do! They're the same family we photographed in our "Day in the Life" session that is proudly displayed on our website

Below is the slideshow from the session.

The Greenbaum Family

I have had the pleasure of photographing Mitch & Marie since their days as Interns and Residents at Botsford Hospital.

Even though they have moved to Toledo, we still enjoy the opportunity of watching as their family grows.

We were originally scheduled to create these portraits at Mill Race in Northvile. But after we saw the number of people taking pictures there...and the lack of color, we decided on Greenmead in Livonia... I'm glad we did. We had the whole place to ourselves and fall colors were much better!

Below is the slideshow from the session.

Enjoy!

Elexes' Senior Portraits

It's really exciting to me that we draw high school seniors from all over the State of Michigan.

Elexes searched the web and came up with a list of over 200 portrait studios that offered High School Senior portraits. That's alot of websites!!!!

The Walkers drove all the way from Macomb Township just to have Elexes' Senior Portraits created by us!

There has to be a GAZILLION photography studios between Commerce Township and Macomb.... but when you want something exciting and different, it's well worth the drive:)

It was a real pleasure meeting Elexes and her family. Below is the preview show from her session.
Enjoy!
